Clay Art NCECA

Yes there are still pots that I saw and haven't shared with you.
Can't have wasted that digital energy, nor the fact that I enjoyed them enough to stop and click.
These are more from the NCECA shows around Tampa and St. Petersburg last week.

A view across the Hillsborough River to the minarets of the University of Tampa.

Two of my sons stand in the shade of the wonderful overhang at the Museum.

Of the three closest towers, the building to middle left is one I worked on when I was an Architectural Interior Designer with Watson Co. in the 70's.  It used to be the tallest building, and at that time was The First Financial Tower.  It seems to change its name every time I come visit.  (Just thought I'd add my share of trivia)

This piece really reminded me of Erin Campbell's sculpture, though this one was covered with something like wallpaper...I kid you not, flocking was one of the media. above

This is one of the pieces that made me scratch my head...it's several feet across, sitting upon the floor...I had trouble understanding this as art...though it is pretty!

And a lot of the display space was given to ancient pottery as well as the newer pieces...above

There was also a beautiful collection of Degas bronze statues, but we weren't allowed to take pictures of that exhibit. above

Tomorrow I'll post my last pictures of St. Petersburg pottery/sculptures, from the Morean Gallery of the Train Station, which everyone still calls St. Pete Clay Company.

There are actually 2 Chihuly art encounters in St. Petersburg FL.  You buy separate tickets for each one.  The Dale Chihuly glass museum doesn't allow pictures of his work...which are incredible.  (They do let you take pictures of the glass objects for sale, which will be posted in a separate blog)

The hibiscus flower was just sitting there as we walked along in St. Pete.  While my son, Marty, browsed in a store nearby, I enjoyed playing with the angle a photographer searches for.  I also admit, I'm influenced by O'Keefe! 

Christina Cordoba

The Morean gallery had a clay exhibit, a single artist show of Christina Cordoba, whose works I'd already seen in Bakersville, NC. 

There were also a lot of scultpures in their NCECA show, of which I've included a few here...

go see what's happening in Tampa March 30-April 2...

I haven't begun to search for the Tampa sites which NCECA will bring out...their shuttle busses are going far and wide...and I'm not on a bus, I'm in my car. I may not go as far as Gainesville. I'll try to take pictures...you know me!  I dare say North Carolina will be a bit lighter this week because so many potters are in Florida!

Also in St. Petersburg, FL is a wonderful site where clay is worked and sold, and a Highwater Clay store is also housed.  (For those of us around Asheville, it is much smaller than the store we are used to, but still a great source for clay supplies)

St. Pete Clay Co. says..."We are fortunate to have NCECA in our city this year.  During this
time we will be hosting many shows in conjunction with the Morean
Arts Center for Clay and Highwater Clays.  NCECA is the annual
